GERRY
RUSHTON STABLES
DOES NOT
DO TRAIL RIDES
OR RENT HORSES.
Whether you
have always wanted to learn to ride, are looking for an exercise
program that is fun, or want to perfect your skills
and enter the show world taking riding lessons is a great way to
attain your goals. A perfect way to alleviate stress is to put
time and energy into working with a qualified instructor to
learn to ride and effectively communicate with the horse you are
riding. Gerry Rushton Stables takes great pride in sharing this
wonderful sport and letting others get to know the joy of
learning to ride and work with horses. Safety and fun are
the top priorities in our lesson program.

the fastest way to advance. All new riders must have at least

savings of $5.00 per lesson)
Group lessons:
Group lessons are the perfect
way to advance your skills and learn to guide your horse around
"traffic" and learn with others. You also have the
advantage of learning from others triumphs and mistakes. These
lessons tend to be a bit longer so they are a great way to get
in your exercise and keep up your stamina. For the purpose
of safety for yourself and others riding with you, in order to
be in the group lessons you must have passed the skills test out
of the beginner level.
$30.00 per lesson
package of 6 for $160.00 (a
savings of $20.00)
** group lessons will not be
available until May 15th.
Levels:
Beginner:
just that. For the beginner rider that is just learning how to
get on a horse, stop, steer, and give basic commands. walk and
some trotting.
Advanced beginner:
Once
a beginner has learned to stop and steer their horse and are in
basic control of the horse at all times, they can advance to
this level. They will be taught more intricate guiding of the
horse without use of the rail, consistent control will be worked
on, and they will start to learn to canter. A second rein will
be introduced for the rider to learn to use as well. Group
lessons with other beginners will become an option part way
through the advanced beginner level.
Intermediate:
For the rider that has full control of their body at the walk
and trot and has started cantering. In order to be an
Intermediate rider, they must be capable of holding, adjusting,
and using 2 reins and performing circles off the rail at
the trot. They will work on mastering the canter as well and
group lessons are a great option at this time. The rider will start to do some individual
tests...these are a great way to improve mental and physical
skills as well as learn from others!
Advanced Intermediate:
In this level the rider has control of all 3 gaits, can ride
with 2 reins and has started to use a full bridle (which
consists of understanding and controlling 2 bits
simultaneously). They now have
full control of the canter and can maneuver their horse at all
gaits through traffic and anywhere they need to be. At this
level, individual tests will be getting more intricate.
Advanced:
This rider is or is well on their way to being capable of
showing. This rider can handle out of the ordinary situations,
understands the horses' way of going and thinking, and is
capable of not just controlling the horse, but of making each
situation one to their advantage. They will be taught advanced
individual testing, how to make their horse looks it's best at
all times as well as perfecting their overall form.
These levels simply give us a
guideline to make the group lessons more beneficial as well as
give you a basic outline of your goals.
Attire:
Gerry Rushton Stables is very concerned
about safety. For this reason no lessons will be given to any
rider without proper riding attire. All riders must wear long
pants (no shorts or capris) and a hard soled shoe with a small
heel. Gloves are advised, but not required. If worn, they
MUST be leather through the palm and fingers so the reins do not
slip out from your grip and they must be thin enough and well
fitted so as to allow you to feel through them. Helmets will be
provided. We will be happy to direct you to a local or mail
order tack shop that will provide these things easily.
Directions to lessons:
**attention**
these directions are to the lesson barn, NOT THE TRAINING BARN!
The facilities are close, but not at the same address. For
