Morgans, American Saddlebreds and Show Ponies Available to Lease
Not quite ready to invest in the purchase of your own horse? We may have a great intermediate solution for you!
Once a rider progresses to the point that they know what they like to ride and want to make more pointed progress, we offer a great intermediate option to allow you to dip your toe into the waters of horse ownership through leasing.
Leasing is a great way to experience the one on one relationship with a horse, forming a bond and working toward competition in the show ring, or to simply feel a connection with your favorite horse and know that every time you join us for lessons, you’ll have the same partner for every ride.
We offer partial or full leases of horses that are appropriate and available. We do not have a lot of horses in our lease program, so if this sounds like a great option for you, speak to your instructor sooner rather than later.
All leased horses must remain under the care of Rushton Stables throughout the lease, and are to be ridden under the guidance of a Rushton Stables instructor. If you’d like to know more about leasing a horse, speak with your instructor, or click on the links below to give you an idea of the available options and party responsibilities.
Leases will be based on one (1) year terms. When you lease a horse from us, whether partial or full lease, you remove it from our completely available roster of lesson horses and we need to plan those transitions. Leased horses are also in training, which means that on days that you are not riding or driving your leased horse in a lesson, it is being trained for YOU, specifically. The horse will be worked with the rider in mind and its training tailored to that rider’s needs, strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, when you DO take your lessons, your horse has been prepped to be its best for you that we can make it. The difference in responses and accuracy in a horse in training versus a horse only being used for lessons is a big difference, and the former makes rider advancement faster and easier.
We do not lease horses to show just during show months. Why? Because riding horses isn’t like playing hockey—when not in use, you can’t just put the horse in the back of the closet until you want to show again. Instead, that horse needs to continue to be fed, get his feet cared for, has vet work done, has its stall cleaned daily, etc. and expecting someone else to take care of those financial responsibilities until a rider is ready to go to a show again is unrealistic. Instead, if you want to be sure you get to show your favorite horse, you can lease it for the year and have access to learning on it the whole time (after all, progress is made and championships are won in the ‘off season’) and you’ll be well prepared to show it when the shows come up.
